SOLITUDE

I walk and observe a rural landscape. In Finland, the light conditions are strict - half of the year is light for three hours per day. The whites and grays of the sky dissolve in the snowy horizon. Fields are Van Dyck brown, Kadmium orange hunters caps blazing from forests. 

I work with a traditional medium of oil on canvas. I apply colors with a brush to the canvas with a paste layer and then spread it and blur it into the absence of representational objects. My paintings depict repetitive patterns of agriculture and log industry cycle behavior. Fields pressed, leveled, muddied..peat mining that occasionally bursts into flames. The shades of the Earth torn up by farmers and the forest industry.  The faded elegance and rust-stained surfaces, express for me the symbols of resilience and character. They stand as testaments to both - the fragility and strength of human beings.

My works are maintained in the studio, in barn and within the garden.
